Police Appreciation Day

We want to thank the men and women who Serve and Protect
______________

The 23 Police District Steering Committee is hosting its 12 Annul Police Appreciation Day on Friday, June 3, 2011.  The date was chosen to coincide with National Law Enforcement month.  This is a time when police officers can know that their sacrifices are remembered, their profession is respected and their commitment is appreciated.

The most dramatic evidence of what officers face, is the recent passing of Sgt. Alan Haymaker, who lost his life in a car accident while responding to a burglary in progress. All of our officers are out in the street, and in the station behind-the-scenes, doing an often thankless job.

On this day, children from area schools present each police officer with a thank you card and community leaders come by to thank the officers for outstanding work in the 23 District.  A meal and snacks, donated from area restaurants, will be served to all officers during their respective shifts.

Your monetary commitment is needed as soon as possible for planning purposes before Friday May 27, 2011.

The Chicago Police Department is not involved in planning this event.  It is organized & staffed by individuals, organizations & businesses in the 23 District that wish to thank the 23rd District police for their service to the community.  Monetary or in-kind donations from the community will provide for the meals, catering & miscellaneous items needed for the day.
